The Centering Studio — Where the wisdom of Joseph Pilates’ Original method is enhanced by a modern knowledge of body mechanics.
The Pilates Method exercises the body as a whole, just as we do in daily activities. Better posture is achieved by building strength and flexibility in a balanced way throughout the body. The stability created by engaging the “powerhouse” allows your movement to flow freely and with less strain. As you focus on “how” to do the exercises, not simply “what” to do, you will not only be creating more strength and flexibility for yourself, but you will be creating new movement patterns. This body-mind connection will enhance the movement of your daily life and create better posture. As you learn to work the body in this balanced way, new strengths abilities will appear and old habits and issues will disappear.
Every session is highly supervised. You will receive feedback, suggestions on how to improve your form, or ways to modify an exercise to better suit your needs.
What is Pilates?
It is a method of exercise developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 20th century. It involves performing movements in a controlled manner while focusing on maintaining a stable core or “powerhouse” (includes the abdominals, back and buttocks). While coordinating the breath and the flow of movement, a body-mind connection is created that helps to create balance within the body.
